Meet Our Board of Directors

Karen Speake

Karen was born in Anne Arundel County Maryland and that is where her love for horses began. She never gave up her plea for a horse of her very own. In March of 1973, at the age of 12, she found her very best equine friend Lady Nayia Flash. Karen and Lady became the ones to beat in both western pleasure classes as well as the speed racing events. Karen moved to Seaford in 2003 and in the process of looking for horses of her own, found other horses in need and realized the need for equine rescue in Delaware. By 2005 she started Changing Fates Equine Rescue in Delaware.

After reading an article in “All Animals” from SPCA about Changing Fates
Equine Rescue she started volunteering. Since October 2016, almost every Saturday and any free time, is spent taking care of the horses. She rode her uncle’s horses when she was younger and has had a deep love for them ever since. Although she would love to adopt a horse for now is happy to be with rescues and volunteers. In 2017 Donna became a Board Member and Volunteer Coordinator.
